Meyer in the Community

Christina Hoey, Project Designer

Meyer's own Christina Hoey participated in the MS 150 City to Shore Bike Ride September 27 & 28. Her team, the Rocky Riders, raised over $4,500.00 to benefit The National Multiple Sclerosis Society! 7,000 cyclists came out to participate in this annual 150-mile ride, and for the first time in the event's 27-year history, registration was filled to capacity!

"I had a wonderful time. Riding with my team was a lot of fun and it was a joy to be able to ride for a great cause. I kept reminding myself how blessed I was to participate when so many struggling with MS cannot even ride a bike. The true MS150 event heroes were the hundreds of volunteers. They had people positioned at every turn cheering on the riders, vehicles roving the route to change flat tires and the smiling faces working at every rest stop to keep us stocked with carbs and water. I am amazed at the amount of organizing that is needed to coordinate an event like this. I was free from worry and able to enjoy the ride. I can't wait for next year!" Christina Hoey

Candis Mirande, Furniture Solutions Coordinator

Candis Mirande's love of historic landmarks and historic preservation led her to an opportunity to host tours at the Biddle Estate in lower Bucks County. The Biddle Estate, also known as Andalusia, is a National Historic Landmark situated on about 100 scenic acres along the Delaware River. Because it is a prime example of Greek Revival architecture, it was part of an American architecture study tour for a certificate program in historic preservation that Candis completed in 1998.

"The place is so appealing that when asked about six years ago if I was interested in leading tours there, I immediately agreed! Since then, I've led people from all over the country, averaging about one tour per week during their 'season', April through November. The property is a hidden gem of the Delaware Valley and well worth a visit." Candis Mirande

Suzanne Linus LEED AP, Project Designer

Suzanne Linus recently became a Big Sister through the national Big Brothers Big Sisters Program! Big Brothers Big Sisters provides one-to-one mentoring through volunteers like Suzanne for children ages 6 - 18. The organization's mission is to help children reach their potential through professionally supported relationships with mentors that have a measurable impact on youth.

"I chose to become a Big Sister because I believe positive role models are important in shaping a child's future. I realized how fortunate my childhood and life has been and I wanted to share this with someone who has not been as fortunate. The time commitment is minimal when compared to the impact my relationship with my Little Sister will have for the both of us. I am looking forward to how we will open each other's worlds to new experiences." Suzanne Linus

Phil Burkett AIA LEED AP, Project Manager

Phil participated in the Largest Running Relay Race in the World (AKA: the Mother of All Relays), the Nike Hood to Coast Relay in Oregon to benefit the American Cancer Society. The race stretches 197 miles near the top of Oregon's majestic Mt. Hood down to the beautiful Pacific Ocean beach in Seaside, Oregon. Over 12,000 Hood to Coast runners shared in the experience of this annual event now in its 28th year! The photo on the right catches Phil as he prepares for the big race.

Tim Kenny LEED AP, Project Architect; Alicia Roch, HR Director; Kellie Metzgar LEED AP, Project Designer; and Kate Bono Fox, Project Designer

Tim, Alicia, Kellie and Kate (Team aTAKK) participated in "QUASH" (Quest to Unravel Alzheimer’s), a citywide Scavenger Hunt in Philadelphia. Their team raised over $800 to benefit the Alzheimer's Association.

The scavenger hunt was a two-hour race against the clock, either on foot or public transportation, where the Meyer team competed in challenges and riddle-solving throughout the city of Philadelphia. The team that completed the most challenges with the most riddles correctly answered was crowned the winner.

"We may not have won the race, but we were awarded Best Costume!" Alicia Roch
