Cutting The Ribbon: Arbor Terrace Mountainside Opens its Doors

Arbor Terrace Mountainside, a new 68,000-square-foot assisted living and memory care community with 79 upscale residential suites and amenities, recently held its grand opening for residents, staff and the entire development team. The Meyer Senior Living Studio provided architectural and interior design services for Capitol Seniors Housing (CSH), a national real estate acquisition, development and investment management firm based in Washington, DC, for the new senior living community.

CSH wanted to find a site within the Mountainside, New Jersey community which would be convenient for residents, family members, and staff. They found the ideal location, adjacent to a child day care center and the nearby Echo Lake Park. Arbor Terrace Mountainside was designed to be as compact as possible to fit within the constraints of the site and zoning requirements.

“Mountainside rests proud on a small elevated site along the main artery through the Mountainside community,” said Dan King, AIA, NCARB, Principal. “The Second Empire architectural style gives it a strong and noble presence on the street. The most inviting space is the Whisky Tavern on the third floor located under the pitched roof of the entrance tower. Here high tray ceilings, high backed leather banquet seating, and dark wood heavy timber trusses give the room an old world feel. Despite the tight site conditions, outdoor spaces were designed in such a way as to feel larger than they are using gentle walking paths and bench seating areas in a well landscaped environment.”

The interior of the community pulled its inspiration from nature and its close proximity to Echo Park. Arbor Terrace Mountainside features fresh and inviting tones of blue, green and yellow complemented by beautiful artwork of local scenery and historical images. Each visitor is immediately awed upon entering the community under a grand canopy, supported by two large graceful brackets, then entering into an elegant, two-story lobby with a monumental staircase.Creating spaces for socialization was of the utmost importance to CSH. The ‘wow’ space in the community is “The Whiskey Tavern,” located on the third floor under the entrance tower. This “old world”-style bar has large open tray ceilings with heavy wood timber trusses and a variety of inviting seating areas. Additionally, residents can enjoy the Garden Café, a comfortable place to sip morning coffee at the island counter and enjoy the warm and pleasing outdoor views through oversized picture windows. Other beautiful amenities include formal and private dining rooms, an activity room, a salon and spa, and a wellness and fitness room.
